Description
ironwood Store 1920's Japanese Hand Painted Panel Screen Byobu Signed Early 1900's Hand Painted and Signed Japanese Byobu 4 Paneled Screen.   Up for your consideration is this absolutely beautiful screen obtained from a very well appointed estate sale in historic upscale neighborhood in the heart of Dallas. I am not an art expert and cannot begin to offer the details to accuratley describe this screen but am placing this up for auction to dealers who will possibly know the prominent artists of this period. The only information I have is that this was a comissioned piece by a very wealthy Dallas family and was considered extremely expensive in the 1920's. It may have been a wedding gift.(The scene looks like a possible wedding preparation.)  It was kept as a prized piece of art on their formal living wall until the estate was sold recently. A family member said it was delicately cared for and even covered most of the time to protect it from light damage. It is in wonderful condition. There are two indented spots on the back with slight tears shown in the photos. There are only a few slightly scratched spots on the laquered edge. The backing looks to be a blocked or screen print that makes the floral design slightly raised and may be oxidizing some.I cannot tell for sure but I think it is painted on rice paper.
