About the Artist Tony Whelihan grew up the second oldest of five brothers in an Irish Catholic household in Steven's Point and Marshfield, Wisconsin. He always knew he wanted to be an artist, and he started selling his artwork as early as 7th grade, when the psychadelic tempura paint posters he cranked out from his basement became the hit of the local art fair. After high school, Whelihan went to University of Wisconsin-Stout and then studied art in London. He came to Minnesota in 1975. From 1995 to 1999, he was the official National Football League alunmi portrait artist.  He's completed two commissions for Disney using layered sheets of glass and Swarovski crystals, created a poster for the Bruce Lee Foundation and shown his work all over the world. Through his numerous fundraisers and legendary parties, Whelihan has made a colorful splash on the Minneapolis scene as well. One of his most noticeable contributions is his "Seasons of the City" mural that covers 5,600 square feet on the side of the Minneapolis Convention Center. Whelihan has painted many famous faces including: Paul Molitor, Brett Favre, Jenifer Hudson, Michael Bolton, Kevin Garnett, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Ray Charles and Lionel Richie. The ability to laugh at life and a love of learning are important to Whelihan. The fact that he continues to learn is one reason the 55-year -old says he doesn't mind growing older-even with life's ups and downs. "Everything I've done has led me to where I am," Whelihan says. Right now is the best time"
