INVESTMENT QUALITY  when real estate prices are dropping, put your money on a unique and virtually priceless piece of the past.  Albrecht Durer of Nuremburg, Germany produced woodcuts and etchings such as the much reproduced "Praying Hands"  and the portrait of Philip Melancthon a student and colleague of Martin Luther. Authenticated  by Morris Shapiro  Gallery Director on behalf of Park West Galleries - registration number 144280.0001 Durer, Albrecht The Four angels holding the Winds (From the Apocalypse) 1498 B. 66; M. 169 15 1/2" by 11 1/8 "  Woodcut on laid paper with narrow margins Signed with the monogram in the block, bottom center. An impression from the second Latin edition of 1511 of the Apocalypse, showing the double edge of the right upper border.  According to Joseph Meder, Durer-Katalog, Ein Handbuch Uber Albrecht Durer Stiche, Radierungen, Holzschnitte, Dere Zustande, Augaben und Wasserzeichenn, 1931. Durer's series of fifteen woodcuts for the Apocalypse or the Revelation of St. John the Divine was the first book in Western  art to be both published and illustrated by a major artist.  Unlike the other Durer's cycles that were printed withthe Latin Text on the back, the Apocalypse was printed in two columns. Aside from being superior in design and techniques to any previous fifteenth century publication, the cycle made a sensational impact onthe history of printmaking. Framed in gold and matted to float on linen so all the features are shown. Appaised for $15,995 by Albert Scaglione, Director, Park West Gallery on 7/22/2005.  Park West Galleries of Michigan has been in the business of selling art of all ages afor about 80 years.   Questions welcome, value discussed
