This superb bronze sculpture is in the form of Harmonie, also known as Melodie or Melody. It is in the figure of a semi nude woman with breast exposed holding a lyre. It is gold and silver gilt with exceptional detail in the casting, right down to the finger and toes. This is the finest example of Belleuse we have ever had the pleasure of offering, absolutely stunning in person. It has a silvered plaque in the front that identifies the bronze as Harmonie par Carrier - Belleuse Medaille d‘Honneur au Salon. It is also signed A Carrier Belleuse on the side, as can be seen in the photo. It dates from the 19th Century and measures 24 + ½ inches tall by 7 + ¾ inches square across the base. It is in excellent condition with the exception of some spots of greening (sometimes referred to as bronze disease) on the arm holding the lyre. It also has some scratching along the underside bottom edge of the foot rim of the base where it had been tested at some point.
