Description
This work by pop artist Andy Warhol is titled "Washington Monument".  The piece is referenced in the catalogue raisonne Andy Warhol Prints (Feldman & Schellmann, 2003) as IIIB.2.   This screenprint on wallpaper measures 43 7/8" by 29 5/8" and is in excellent condition. Created in 1974, "Washington Monument" is from an unnumbered edition.  In the Feldman/Schellmann catalogue raisonne, it indicates that this print was a commissioned work, but notes that there were no records as to who commissioned it and why. During the early '70s, when this work was made, Warhol did a number of prints for political campaigns. In 1972, he created "Vote McGovern" depicting a ghoulish Richard Nixon; in 1973 he created a black and white portrait of Mao. In 1976 he created Jimmy Carter I. This could very well have been intended as a political print, however there is a possibility it might have been intended for Warhol's exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington in 1975. Never editioned, so there are a limited number of prints that came from the Warhol Foundation. A timely subject for the presidential primaries and upcoming election. Please note, the work is being sold unframed although the picture shows the verso of the work and the foundation stamp.  Shipping insurance is included to the purchaser of this work.  Other works by several modern masters are available for viewing in our ebay store. .
