David Gilhooly is a well known as a sculptor / far out artist, recognized primarily for his ceramic's of, food, planets, animals and Crazy FrogWorld. He graduated of the University of California at Davis (BA,MA,mid 60's, Gilhooly with a little help from his friends, working in TB-9 (temporary building 9, aka "The hood") Due to his success he was  coined the creator of Funk Ceramic Movement of the San Francisco Bay Area. In 82', Gilhooly started exploring the media of Plexiglass, but still produced quite a number of ceramic pieces. In 1996 he finally gave up clay completely to work on what Gilhooly calls the shadow boxes, which are a much evolved form of the Plexiglas pieces. Many called them "peep shows", as others have called them, are reminiscent of the works of Joseph Cornell. David Gilhooly is also known for his humor and artistic versatility and is an Icon as a ceramic artist, he is also a prolific draftsman, and printmaker. His works are in the most famous collections through out the world. Most recently, seventy of Gilhooly’s prints, drawing and books from the private collection of the 'Cantor Arts Center' at Stanford University were Triumphantly exhibited at a soirée called Food, Frogs, and Fido: Works on Paper by David Gilhooly.
