The right side has a woman's head in profile looking back, the left side has some studies of hands. The drawing style is classic and elegant, and a fine example of Lundeburg's linear drawing style. It has been folded and there is a tear that goes up on the fold, plus the paper has yellowed, is old and fragile. On one ear there is a water stain. After restoration the drawing would look wonderful, however, and this is a piece that can be restored well. On the back is a study of a figure composition which relates to one of her murals. Because it is for a mural this dates the drawing to sometime in the thirties because Lundeburg created a number of similar figure compositions for murals she did for the WPA. Because of its flawed condition it is offered at a lower price. This drawing came directly from Helen Lundeburg to Harry Carmean who was a good friend of hers for thirty years, so the provenance is rock solid. A letter of authenticity will be included wit the sale. Helen Lundeburg's early work, especially that which is figurative, is rare and much sought after by collectors - her poise and refinement is well developed in this work.
