This wonderful pottery rooster cookie jar sculpture measures about 15.75 inches tall (with the head on) by 12.5 inches long and 9 inches wing tip to wing tip. I fired this Alkaline Cone 10 Reduction glaze in a gas kiln. As the kiln fired I adjusted the kiln to create a Carbon rich atmosphere. Altering the chemical state of the glaze, which leaves the glaze a clay body reduced. This carbon trapping technique leaves the glaze with these wonderful glaze surfaces and colors. There is an old Japanese Proverb that tells of a potter to the Emperor of Japan who became extremely depressed trying to achieve a perfect copper red for the Emperor that one day in total frustration he threw him self in to a RED HOT KILN. Days later when the kiln was opened it was found that his body had added the perfect amount of reduction material to get to the perfect copper red. This Piece is Signed and Dated.
