Description
20” WIDE  BY 16” HIGH--$5000.00 jACK BEVERLAND, I.E., MR. B, IS A FOLK ARTIST BEYOND INFLUENCES.  THE APPROACH HE TAKES STARTS WITH A STORYBOARD, HE DRAWS, And THEN PAINTS FOLK/VISIONARY ARTWORKS. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF 60 PAINTINGS HE DOES A YEAR. IT IS CALLED “FLORIDA SWAMP.” TO DESCIBE: THERE IS A WHITE MAN AND A BLACK MAN WRESTLING AN ALLIGATOR WITH A RED BRIDGE AS FOCAL POINT!  FOLK ART DEPICTS THE HARSH REALITIES OF SIMPLE LIFE, YET SO CONTENT IN THIS HISTORIC AND RATIONAL PAINTING OF ANIMALS AND HUMANS. IN A SCENIC LANDSCAPE OF LUSH TREES (5 LARGE ONES, 10 THAT HAVE DOTS ON THEM, 30 SMALLER TREES) SOME OF WHICH GLOW IN THE DARK--MR. B UTILIZES PUFFY PAINTS, A PLASTIC LIKE SUBSTANCE THAT DRIES HARD. THE SKY IS DONE IN MANY SHADES OF ACRYLICS. LET ME NAME MOST OF THE ANIMALS IN THE ARTWORK: SQUARRILS, ALLIGATORS, DUCKS, FLAMINGOS, DEER, BEARS, SWANS, BIRDS, RABBITS, SKUNKS, BEAVERS, AND SNAKES.   THIS WOULD MAKE A WONDERFUL GIFT TO A CHILD OF GOD, YOUR LITTLE ONE, OR SOMEONE THAT NEEDS A BRIGHT LIGHT IN THEIR ROOM. HE RECENTLY SOLD PAINTINGS TO A NURSING HOME IN FLORIDA. AND HIS ARTWORK WILL BE DISPLAYED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA POLYTECHNIC EXHIBITION HALL THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2008.   THIS PROMISES TO BE A COLLECTORS DREAM PIECE. UNIQUE AND AUTHENTIC.         his resume:   Highly-Renowned & accomplished Southern Folk Artist     Profile Mr. B is a self-taught Southern folk, functional, naïve, and outsider artist who finds peace of mind in his unique breed of art. His followers include former President Bill Clinton, Florida Governor Jeb Bush and  Glenda Hood, former Florida Secretary of State.   Born into a poor family in 1939, his mother moved him and his older brother to Florida after his father died.  Their existence was meager but the experience gave him a strong drive for success.  Later in life Mr. B learned there was no such thing as "corporate loyalty" after being forced into retirement leaving Mr. B lost and angry.  Mr. B conquered his angry beast within through his art.  He portrays in his works the simple life - the life that most of us want to live - the days of our childhood - the dreams we once had and most importantly, the way we would all like it to be.   His whimsical paintings feature lush landscapes along with animals, birds, and trees and are created on recycled wood, using more than seventy different dimensional acrylic paint colors and 7 puffy paints that glow in the dark.  His premise for producing these truly “touchable” paintings is first choosing a title, putting imagination into what the title means, drawing it, then eventually painting it.   Professional Honors ·         The Mennello Museum of American Art has extended an invitation to exhibit his work during the Festival of Southern Art and Culture, a partnership with Central Florida Folk and Project Imagination in March 2008 ·         City of Tampa, County Courthouse, Florida, 2008 ·         Who's Who in American Art, 1999 - 2008 ·         Marquis Who’s Who in America, 2003 - 2008 ·         Marquis Who’s Who in the World, 2008 ·         World Institute of Disability, Book: Sticks and Stones: People’s Stories of Abuse, Defiance and Resilience, April, 2008 ·         Best of Category, Princeton Medical Center, Princeton, New Jersey, 2002-2007 ·         Featured Artist, The Pasco Tribune Section, April 28, 2007 ·         The New York Times “36 Hours in Orlando, Florida,” Written by  Charles Passy, published April 1, 2007 ·         Recipient, Best of Show , Princeton Medical Center, Princeton, New Jersey, 2004-2006 ·         Juror Selection Award, Moss Rehab at Elkins Park, November 2006 ·         Featured in the Suncoast News, April 9, 2005 ·         Mr. B won first prize for his body of work and an invitation to exhibit at "Art First", put on by The Auxiliary of University Medical Center at Princeton, Princeton, New Jersey in March 2005.     Professional Honors (Continued)   ·         Recipient, Best of Show, Art First (an international juried show featuring artists with disabilities), 2005 ·         Featured Artist, St. Petersburg Times, June 13, 2004, by Rick Gershman ·         VSA Arts International Conference, Washington, D.C., 2004 ·         University Health Systems Calendar, Eastern Carolina, 2004 ·         Award of Merit for Art, Ruskin Seafood Festival, 2004 ·         Best of Show Riverside Festival, Columbus, Georgia, 2004 ·         "Extraordinary Interpretations" by Gary Monroe, 2003 ·         Visiting Artist, Ambassadors Day, 2003 Artist of the Month story by Willa Warren Best of Show, Riverview Folk Fest, Riverview, Florida Honored with a Booklet by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners Enabling the City to Acquire Public Works of Art, 1989   Career Highlights/Artwork on Display 5th Annual Ferrington Folk Art Show, Ferrington, North Carolina 25th Annual VSA Arts International Rehabilitation Book 34th Annual Kentuck Festival, Alabama Beck Gallery, Lutz, Florida Center Art Gallery, Gainsville, Florida Cotton Club Museum, First Place ,Gainesville, Florida, 2007 Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, Jacksonville, Florida Department of Elder Affairs, Washington, D.C.
