Description
JAN KASPRZYCKI “There is something extra that draws the eye to a Jan Kasprzycki painting. Perhaps it is the power that seems to leap from the canvas, perhaps the feast of colors Jan creates in delicious impastos. His works appear to pose a vitality of their own… something remarkably special, something extra.” -- www.jankasprzycki.com JAN KASPRZYCKI Artist, Painter, MASTER COLORIST, INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED. A BRIEF LOOK AT JAN KASPRZYCKI: Born July 15, 1942 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Jan is the eldest of two sons. His interests have always centered around art. He painted his first picture at age 3. In the early 50’s, the Kasprzycki’s moved to California where Jan completed his primary and secondary education. Jan has always been averse to formulated approaches to art, a fact he profoundly proved by failing art four times during his high school days, because “there was no room for creative freedom.” At the age of 17, Jan was accepted as a student at the highly acclaimed Los Angeles Art Center. He completed the four-year Art Center curriculum in just two years and eight months and graduated with honors atop his class. At age 28, Jan had already won national and international acclaim for his bold, dynamic style and abstract realistic color / subject associations. Despite his youth, Jan earned the esteem of his contemporaries. Jan’s is a talent that transcends the common barriers of form and technique; there is much more to Kasprzycki than this. He has a quality, a perceptiveness which enables him to relate colors, shapes, and textures which only the mind’s eye of most men can normally conceive. Kasprzycki’s art simply extends beyond the heretofore firm parameters of realism to a style termed “Abstract Realism” by many who have viewed his work. As you reflect on Jan Kasprzycki’s offerings, many of you will ask WHY? Why do girls bathe on a tri-colored beach? Why do cattle nibble on purple grass? Why do chickens strut around on strange colored planks? Why do birds fly through an overture of colored horizons? The answers to these questions are in the paintings themselves. Forget that grass is green, water is blue, and the sun is yellow--for these are learned, relative associations. Join Jan Kasprzycki on an excursion into freedom, where color is there because it is perceived; and where texture is used because it belongs. This philosophy is what lead Jan Kasprzycki to develop his “Abstract Realism” style. As Kasprzycki puts it, “the object is to relate the essence of the subject matter and the feeling of the total environment through massive areas of solids tempered with realistic shapes and textures. It is not necessary to sacrifice the beauty and realism to total abstraction. Ultra realistic presentations can more vividly communicate the same expression on a level intelligible to even the most passive art viewer.” Perhaps this says it all with regard to the Kasprzycki Abstract Realistic Art Style, but his work and life reflect something deeper. Concern! Jan Kasprzycki is concerned about happiness, NOW, and about how complexity has seemingly stripped us of that happiness. At age 28 he said, “I think about 50 years from now, and it scares me. I’m happiest when I’m painting, and I want to paint things in such a way that it will allow me to share this happiness with those who view my work.“ So it is, in these troubled times, Jan Kasprzycki’s way to stave off the complexities which confront us and relate the reality behind them. This absence of involvement with complexity in his art does not make his bathers less human, his cattle less awesome, his birds less vibrant, his people less poignant. On the contrary, all of these things seem beyond the confines of singular reality. It is the hope of those of us who have watched Jan Kasprzycki develop this style that when you view his work you, too, will relinquish the reigns of conformity and association and allow yourself the happiness of an Abstract Realism experience. JAN KASPRZYCKI -- BIOGRAPHY Born in Rhode Island and raised in Southern California, Kasprzycki was educated at Art Center in Los Angeles. After graduating, he worked as a graphic designer whose talents were sought after by some of America's major corporate clients: Max Factor, 20th Century Fox and Hunt-Wesson Foods among them. Kasprzycki moved to Maui in 1976, where at home with his wife Kathy in the island's upcountry grandeur, surrounded by eucalyptus and flowers, he is able to immerse himself in the clarity of vision and purpose that such a powerful environment provides. Each stroke of his brush becomes an emotional act. The compositions that emerge are both abstract (in detail) and representational (in subject matter). The magic that so deftly unifies these disparate forces - the abstract and the representational - is color. Kasprzycki puts it simply: "I'm a colorist. It is color that takes my hand and tells it what to do." For over thirty years, Kasprzycki has painted and exhibited his artwork throughout the U.S. and Asia. Maui, as an international travel destination, has allowed Kasprzycki to expose his work to a world-wide clientele, and as a result, his paintings can be found in personal and corporate collections on every continent. Many discriminating world travelers who sojourn to Maui consider a visit to Kasprzycki's studio to be the highlight of their Hawaiian vacation. In years past, Kasprzycki was commissioned to produce a collection of over 20 artworks depicting a 100,000 acre working cattle ranch in Oklahoma. The idea was to document the ranch and it's cowboy lifestyle before it was passed on to heirs, subdivided, and lost to a new era. Another similar commission was to develop a collection of close to 50 artworks depicting Retla Steamship Co.'s fleet of freighters in action at various ports around the world. That collection was designed to hang in the Retla corporate headquarters. Kasprzycki says, "I have never done a large body of work on a particular theme that was not commissioned by a singular client or company. NightScapes International Collection is a mission of my own creation". -- Jan Kasprzycki From a smoke-free home. Extra shipping charges for International. Local pick-up available.
