Jazz Legend June Christy Original Oil Painting Start Price USD 28,000.00 Current Price USD 28,000.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, July 01, 2008 End Time Friday, July 11, 2008 Location Edwardsville, IL See more about 'Jazz Legend June Christy Original Oil Painting' Description This original, Impressionistic Floral painting was done by the late jazz singer/legend, "The Misty Miss Christy" known of course, as June Christy.  Most of the world knew of her 4 "Best Female Band Vocalist" awards she earned in the late 1940's and 1950's.  Still more knew her signature hits "Something Cool," "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most" and dozens of others that defined the "cool" sultry West Coast style that was at once both warmly alluring and instantly recognizable.  What many of her fans are unaware of was that she was equally a talented artist.  From personally sketching and designing her performance gowns to enjoying a relaxed, sunny California afternoon rendering a still life that would wind up hanging in her art-filled contemporary home, or as a treasured gift to family or friends.   Unlike her close and artistically simpatico friend, Tony Bennett, June had no desire to commercially promote her paintings.  As such, research showed they have never been auctioned and are largely unavailable to the public. This piece, was completed and gifted to a family member in approximately 1972 where it has remained.  Freshened with new custom frame and careful matting, it measures 22.5" X 28.5"  This is a very textured painting with a hint of both throughtful brushwork and probable palette knife highlights.  It is in exquisite condition, signed in the lower right quadrant by Miss Christy. Quality, source and scarcity dictate auction terms.  This piece leaves our family reluctantly.
