Acclaimed as the "Audubon of the 20th century," Dubois creates his prints using the challenging nineteenth century carbon printing process, and his pieces exhibit the broad tonal range and richness of surface typical of that pigment-transfer medium. This print depicts a pair of rare Snowy Egrets with their nest — an image so striking that it was used on the cover of a 1988 issue of Smithsonian magazine. Hand signed and numbered 6 from a limited edition of 25 and matted in brown velveteen with gold fillets, this spectacular work would be a magnificent addition to any collection of fine photography or wildlife art.Artist: Jean-Louis DuboisTitle: Snowy Egret Couple on NestMedium: Color Carbon PrintDate: Printed in 2007Image Size: 13 by 20 inchesSheet size: 20 by 26 inchesMat size: 23 by 29½ inchesCondition: Print and mat are in excellent conditionCertificate of Authenticity provided by Midwest Estate BuyersThe biography of explorer, naturalist and wildlife photographer Jean-Louis Dubois is rich and varied. Born in an ancestral French castle, Dubois was raised from an early age in the unforgiving environment of the World War II era Sahara Desert. Educated by a motley assortment of European expatriates and desert nomads, young Jean-Louis was attracted to art and nature equally.Later in life, Dubois incorporated both of these interests into his life's work: artfully photographing the wildlife of some of the most remote locations on earth. In the words of one writer: "His technique combines elements of beauty to translate animals and their behavior into compelling pictures. He uses his subjects as an artist uses colors on a palette. It is only when his subjects come together in a certain desired balance that the moment is captured on film." The photographer's extraordinary images are printed using an equally extraordinary technique: the carbon print. One of the oldest permanent photographic processes, carbon printing is more of an art than a science: master printers spend years learning the process. Each carbon print is unique, the result of up to three weeks of painstaking printing. Jean-Louis Dubois' dedication to — and mastery of — the art of carbon printing is obvious to any viewer of his stunning prints. Dubois has said: "We have dedicated our life to nature. We are totally immersed in it." For Dubois, nature and art are deeply intertwined, and his devotion to both is total.Due to the price or shipping dimensions of this item a shipping quote is required.
