This painting was recently given an Auction Estimate from Christie's New York for $8,000-$12,000...(further details upon request) The painting is truly a small Masterpiece of the Impressionist Pleine Aire style ... And would fit in well with circa 1900 American Arts and Crafts Interiors , etc. Pablo Salinas (as he is more commonly called) was mostly known for elaborate Interior scenes of the Aristocracy or Editorial scenes of Cardinals , etc... However, a True Scholar of his work will discover that he is also known to have painted some landscapes and outdoor Garden Scenes in a more Impressionist Style, this painting is an example of that area of his work.... I've included a close-up of the signature, which is difficult to read, so I've added an enhanced version to help you to read it... He studied at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts. In 1886 he moved to Rome, joining his brother Augustin Salinas, who was also a painter. The two brothers lived in Augustin's studio at Via Margutta in Rome. They both became part of the Spanish colony of artists resident in Rome. Juan attended classes at the highly respected International Circle of Fine Art and the Chigi Academy.  In 1887 the Salinas brothers sent works to the National Exhibition of Madrid, Juan Pablo Salinas also exhibited at the Roger Salons in France. Salinas painted eighteenth century costume pieces within luxurious settings, ornate church interiors and popular genre scenes of Spanish and Italian life.  He was particularly admired for his rich colouring, minute detail and fanciful brushwork. In 1892, the Magazine "Illustacion Artistica" commented on his work: "His key characteristic is the poetry he brings to all his paintings (including his genre works) in depicting our everyday life, and landscapes". He died in Rome in 1946.
