S. started photography in the early 1970s with photo-sequences that were radically innovative against the mainstream studio and documentary work of most of his contemporaries. Famous photographer ERNST HAAS was so impressed by his first experiments that he consequently became Simak's mentor which resulted in mutual inspiration despite completely different approaches in photography. S. worked and researched in the Ernst Haas studio in New York and completed the first scientific monography on Ernst Haas (after Haas passed away in 1986) for which he was awarded a PhD degree. - Simak is listed in artprice.com and in lots of art photography books, his work is found in several prestigious collections (Albertina Museum Vienna) as well as in Berlin, Munich, New York, Maine and London.
