NOTE: This beautiful painting "Bob's Path" dated 1910, was painted by Lillian Genth when she was a your 34 years of age. It was originally purchased in 1994 by one of the top ISA art expert appraisers in the USA. I have owned it for over 10 years and decided to offer it for sale. It was one of Lillian Genth's personal paintings and if you do your homework you will find that similar sized personal Genth paintings make up her highest sales from $20,000 to $82,0000 of one close to the same size. THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF GENTH's BEST WORK and the shadows and multitude of broken brush strokes are simply amazing. She originally signed the title, date and her initials L.G. on the back. LILLIAN MATHILDE GENTH was a talented turn of the century American artist. She is known for her detailed paintings of genre, portraits, cities, cafes, Arabs, nudes, rivers, and coastal views. We were able to locate a high auction record for this artist of over $82,000 (see below). This painting would be a wonderful addition to any vintage American art collection! Despite her great financial success, she said "There isn"t enough money in this country to make me paint another one!" And she didn"t. Instead, she became known for her portraits, and painted people and scenes in Brittany, Venice, and North Africa, the islanders of the South Pacific, and a series on bull-fighting. She also painted Whistler"s portrait while studying with him. Sources: WW53; WW47; 300 Years of American Art, vol. 2: 728; obit., Phila. Bulletin (Mar. 27, 1953); Falk, Exh. Record Series.
