Description
Frank L. Wright's sister was the most famous book illustrator of her generation. See Han's Brinker's Skates. Her work is collected in the original in the library of congress and the most valued is of this rare group of first world war paintings to involve children in the war effort. This painting shows small girls sitting under a waving American flag knitting socks for soldiers fighting in Europe. The library of Congress has her victory garden black and white drawing with uncle Sam leading the children with rakes and hoes. Frank and his family moved into Maginal's apt. in NYC when things got rough in the depression. She is also known as Maginal Wright Enright..her married name. Two major NY galleries have offered to sell this painting, purchased from an estate in Honolulu but the owners wished to show it to the larger audience in the hopes that someone might buy it for the new Children's National Museum in Washington DC or for some other public place of display. It is a charming original work of a sweeter time when the children worked for a war their parents could support. Shown are the back of the painting, on illustration board and the artists own number. Good luck on the bidding.
