Boldly executed, the balance of solid shapes and meandering details create a buzzing of activity within the piece. This is a very early work, dating from 1953. It has full margins and is quite a gem. Published by Maeght, Paris, this work is numbered from the edition of 100 in the lower left and signed by Miro in the lower right hand side of the work. The deep bright burgundy color combined with the delicate inking of the black create a mysterious night sky scene with stars and a vast cosmos. This is a very good impression of this scarce, early print! The large black circular form in the upper right of the image first captures the viewer’s attention, which then leads the eye throughout the piece through curvilinear and dotted accents. Engulfed in a burgundy background, the forms appear as though encapsulated in separate areas within the image. This wonderful piece is a visually engaging example of Miró’s playful use of abstracted imagery. About the Framing:Set in a Spanish style stepped gold and black frame, the ribbon detailing of the moulding compliments the meandering curved shapes within the image. The black and gold coloration of the frame enhances the contrasting colors within this piece.
