Description
NORMAN LINDSAY 1879-1969 'After The Chase' This beautiful collotype of a lithograph was used as an illustration to 'Satyrs and Sunlight' published in 1928 by The Fanfrolico Press in an edition of 550 copies. This image comes from number 356. Very few of the images from this edition have been published elsewhere. It is printed on Barcham Greens hand made paper and is signed in the plate. It is in excellent condition and comes with our Certificate of Authenticity which details its origin. Image Size 20cms x 14.5cmsSheet Size 29.5cms x 23cms COLLECTING NORMAN LINDSAY PRINTS Norman Lindsay is probably the most collected artist in Australia. His oils, watercolours and original prints have now appreciated in value beyond the means of most buyers. Accordingly, printed images produced during his lifetime are now the most affordable. Lindsay created, selected and collated many images for publication in books and portfolios. In most cases, these are the only source of the images. Publication of these images reached their peak in the 1920s when Lindsay was involved with the Fanfrolico Press. The majority of the publications were limited editions, some as small as 60 copies, of which very few still remain. It is unusual to find these books in good condition, without foxing, insect or water damage. Many have missing plates which have been removed for framing. The rarity of many of the images has made them highly collectable and they continue to rise in value. It is interesting to note that Limited Edition Facsimile Etchings seem to be good investments even though they were produced after Lindsay's death and clearly without his involvement. However, I do not sell them, because they are not lifetime impressions. TERMS OF SALE PAYMENT We will invoice you within 48 hours of the end of the auction.
