Description
NARCOTI-CURE. 1895 Artist: William H. Bradley (1868-1962) 20 x 14 inches. Condition B+: loss in right margin; trimmed bottom margin. Mounted on linen and then mounted on board. While most of Bradley's work was for various elements of the publishing business, he also designed posters and magazine ads for commercial products. Foremost among these are Victor Bicycles, Columbia Bicycles, The Springfield Bicycle Club and Twin Comet Lawn Srinklers. This poster for a drug to cure nicotine addiction features St. George defeating an allegorical Art Nouveau tobacco demon. "Bradley is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, of the poster artists we have in this country" (Philadelphia Ledger circa August 15, 1895). Kiehl 17, DFP I 162, Reims 1146, Koch p. 50.
