It was painted  in 2006 using the finest quality paints and media, with archival methods. This painting was done after a self-portrait by the Dutch Master, Rembrandt van Rijn (included in the photos, the original appears slightly yellower than Zohar's version).  This work was painted using the exact same methods and techniques used by Rembrandt, as well as the other Dutch Master painters. First, a careful underpainting is created in white against a brown background. Gradually, the highlights are built up and the shadows pushed back in what is still a painting of limited palette; browns and whites. Then glazes, or thin, semi-transparent layers of color, are added on top of the underpainting to vivify, sculpt and illuminate the figure. Indeed, the photos shown here do little justice to the true beauty and power of this authentic oil painting, and seen in person it is really something to behold, as it seems nearly to glow from within when lit correctly. This is an effect created by glazing over white underpainting, and then re-working the highlights into the glazes. Although this painting was created fairly recently, it will undoubtedly add a bold touch of elegance and sophistication to the room in which it hangs. It has been seen by experienced viewers (artists, collectors) who have also traveled to The Hague to see the original in the Mauritshuis. Several have declared that this painting not only does great homage to the Rembrandt but in some subtle ways is actually more pleasurable to look at. He was trained in London, UK and in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at The Ohio State University. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Art at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. He is the winner of numerous awards, including the Fergus Memorial Fund Award for Achievement in Fine Arts and the OSU Undergraduate Research Scholarship. His work has been exhibited internationally and across the United States, in private and public collections. Yotam is a Classically-trained painter, a unique attainment for an artist hailing from Midwestern art schools. However, he has worked in a wide variety of styles and media, including gouache abstract-expressionism and graphite photorealism.
