Description
ORIGINAL L GODDARD OIL IN THE BORDERLAND OUT YONDER Search THIS IS THE ORIGINAL ARTWORK USED TO CREATE A POPULAR L GODDARD CALENDAR PRINT- NOT A REPRODUCTION! It is titled "In The Borderland Out Yonder Where the Hand of God Is Seen". It is signed in the lower right hand corner L Goddard. It measures 20" x 26" unframed and 25 1/2" x 31 1/2" framed. This is an original mixed media painting created using photography and oils. It came out of the vault of the Thomas D Murphy Calendar Company in Red Oak Iowa. Please note the condition of the artwork and frame. I had hoped to eventually have a specialist restore several ares on the canvas. Unfortunately circumstances are such that I am downsizing my collection of vintage artwork and prints. Please view pictures that I have included in this auction. I am also including an original 1930 calendar that was created form this artwork. We framed this calendar using acid fee backing and vintage style framing. The print measures approx 12 1/2" x 16 1/2". This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a rare peice of history. The ultimate Goddard collection should contain at least one original! I have another original L Goddard that I am selling in a separate auction. L Goddard was the pseudonym used by two artists. L G Woolfenden was a commercial photographer who had purchased the Arthur Studios in Detroit. Rudolph Ingerle was a Vienna born fine art landscape artist in the early 20th century. Woolfenden would photograph models in the studio. The photos would be cut out , hand colored and applied to a canvas. Then Ingerle would create a scene using oil paints around the figures. He would create the background and add details to the model and clothing. The two artists were talented enough to create a believable and beatiful image. These images were then reproduced into calendar prints. I have read that original works are rare because the Thomas D. Murphy Calendar Company destroyed most of the paintings to prevent images being stolen and used by rival calendar companies.
