EUGENE SMITH photo: CHAOS MANOR' Description This is an ORIGINAL W. EUGENE SMITH photograph. A very well known and documented image. The photo is a purposeful double exposure of silhouettes in windows. This is a master print made by Mr. Smith from his private collection, the reverse bears a round estate stamp with the legend "This authenticated photograph by W. Eugene Smith was in his private collection at his death, October 15, 1978". The negative and print date circa from 1958 to 1968. Smith's photo of his loft building at 821 Sixth Avenue in NYC reflects the high energy of its guests and tenants. An incredible array of jazz musicians would visit to jam in David X. Young's loft space, with others, like Salvador Dali, just dropping in. A vintage silver gelatin print, the photo measures 7.5" by 11.5" mounted on a 16" by 20" board which is corner mounted in a 16" by 20" matte. This item is in excellent condition with rich black and grays. No flash was used which slighted yellowed my photos of the image and reverse. The board on which the photo is drymounted has a black reverse which makes the estate stamp difficult to photograph and not easy to see in general. The matte has some stray marks but nothing affects the image (see photos). I will ship domestically for $8.50 and internationally for $15.00. Insurance is required.
