Description
Normal 0 "Osiris" Unmasking SeriesArt by Melba  The Nuer people of Sudan, Africa who use scarification to beautify their face and body, inspired “Osiris”.  The work is named "Osiris" after the Egyptian god of life, death and fertility.  The amazing thing about this piece are the eyes, they glow in dark.  The eyes are backlit with two small pen lights (light diodes) that shine light through an acrylic sheet.  The light source has an on/off switch and a clear 12' plus cord.  The image was accomplished by painting first with acrylic paint then gluing beads over it to add more color and texture.  A protective varnish coats the surface to secure the beads also giving it shine.  Truly one of a kind, this has been a work in progress since early 2007. "Osiris" is bold, striking and commands attention.  The glowing eyes fill the room with amazing energy.  The eyes have a metallic brass and copper color that reflect light whether turned on or off.  "Osiris" has a dark and moody feel to it. I simply love it!   Normal 0 About The Artist Hello! Thanks for stopping by. I am a mostly self taught artist living in Los Angeles by way of Louisiana.  I have been painting and creating mixed media works of art for the past fifteen years.  I have participated in group and solo shows.  All of my artworks are one of a kind original, no prints.  I believe that art should be touched as well as viewed so the majority of my paintings are heavily textured.  I employ bright bold colors and various materials in an effort to evoke the passion that inspires me to paint.  Primarily the human form is my subject. People tend to feel engaged while viewing my work, however, my son says the big faces "creep" him out! I believe art should excite and add energy to a room.  This is the goal for every piece I create. Best Regards Melba
