On the back of the painting there is a label that states the name of the previous owner "H.L. Heinz Est" or something similar, it's somewhat illegible.         Biography: Sir William Beechey, English portrait painter from London. Beechey studied at the Royal Academy in 1772 was elected associate of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1793 and full academician in 1798, the same year that he was knighted. Beechey was a highly successful portrait painter and was popular with the family of George III. He was also a portrait painter to Queen Charlotte and instructor to the princess at one time. Among the many museums that exhibit his works are: the Toledo Art Museum, the Tate Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery in London (where the famous portrait of Admiral Horation Nelson by Sir Beechey is kept), the Courtauld Institute in London and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, etc. Auctions: His most expensive painting - “Portrait of Mizra Abu'l Hassan Khan” (oil, size 56.8 x 54.3 in) has sold for $334, 007 on June 8, 2006. His oil portrait of “Margaret Crow, Mrs Sigismund Traffo...” (28.7 x 24 in) sold for $17,215 on Nov, 23, 2006. Beechey's "Portrait o Mr. George Ward" (oil, size 36.2 x 28 in) has sold for $19,200 USD on Jan 29, 2005.
