The signature is clearly written, as you can see in the pictures, however, we are unable to identify the name. We have brought this piece to a museum and to an art expert; we were only sure that the piece is authentic to that time period, and last five letters of the artist’s name are ‘offer’. Clearly, the first initial is the letter “C”, followed by the beginning of the artist’s last name- which we think is either an “S” or an “L”. The next four letters are hard to make out, as you can see. We hope someone will be able to help us with the name of the artist. (There is some dispute as to what the letters are.) The date can be easily read- we make it out as1888. It comes with an ornate frame that is gold in color. It is in its original frame; it is very old and does have damage. This piece is faded, and needs professional cleaning. It is a scene of a sled rider being carried away by three horses in full gallop. In the close ups you can see the fear in the man’s face as he is being taken away by the horses. Special detail was given to the decorative bridals on the horses, as was the face of the man. This is a very old, but interesting piece, there is a seal on the backside but we cannot see what it says due to fading. We have been informed that this piece is believed to be from Russia. If anyone has any additional information that we could add, such as an artist’s name or definite origin- please contact us. We are always happy to have additional information. This piece is painted on a wooden panel, not canvas. Another e-bay member wrote and informed us that this artist's work is very similiar to the work of Nikolai Sverchkov, another Russian artist. We looked at several pieces of this artist's work, and does indeed bear a striking resemblance.     The images were taken in both indoor and outdoor lighting, we are sorry about the difference.
