Also available in 12x 14 - $49.95     Title: Strega Witch Details: Legend has it that in the foutheenth-century a Wise Woman by the name of Aradia revived what was called the Old Religion or La Vecchia Religione. The witches of central Italy worshipped the goddess Diana and her consort the god Dianus. The tradition is called Stregheria. There are several different types of Stregheria: Janarra, Tanarra, Fanarra, Silvanic, Benandanti, Luperci, Cavellini, Italian Fairy, Sicilian Fairy and Trinacrian.  The image shows a Strega standing in a courtyard of an old house in Tuscany, Italy dressed in peasant garb. She is holding a stang which is a long forked piece of ash wood. It would be planted in the ground as a focal point for spirits during sacred rites. The stang represents the Horned Master of Witchcraft and is considered the most important tool of Stregheria Witchcraft. Hanging from her belt is a Nanta Bag a portable altar containing ritual tools which allows the Strega to perform acts of magic anywhere. On the table in the foreground is a Spirit Bowl.
