This specific piece is an Aztec mask made mainly from Obsidian. Obsidian is a rock that is mainly found near volcanic regions where the lava is rich in minerals so it can form. This mask has it's main center piece made from clear Turquoise. As for the silvery rock, it is actually Abalone(Haliotis). These are sea snails but their shell is used in art such as this.
