Description
Several years ago my wife, a commercial real estate broker, accepted sculpture and serigraphs by Erte as commissions. We have held them to sell for tuition when our son attended college. Well, he finally is in college and now we are selling two serigraphs (Love's Screen, Triumph of the Courtesan), and this bronze sculpture, The Slave, by Erte. Erte was an internationally recognized Russian born artist whose works appear in homes, galleries, and museums throuhout the world. He was especially well known in Europe and the United States. He took up residence in New York City and for nearly fifty years greatly influenced the world of art with provocative mind-capturing and eye pleasing pieces. This bronze was inspired by Erte's costume design for a 1926 Broadway production. We have the sales receipts from the gallery which detail the sculpture's history and verifies it's pedigree. I have checked several gallery websites: the current retail price for this piece is $18,500 in excellent condition. Our sculpture, #119, is in excellent condition - no corrosion, no scratches, no abrasions. This piece, a fine representative of art deco that helped define the "Roaring Twenties" of the American culture, is a very interesting statue and a great conversation piece. Picture it placed on your fireplace mantel or prominently displayed on a lighted pedestal in your living room. And do I need mention that this is an investment piece whose value continues to increase.
