Wonderfully expressive and vibrant, this work gives us an intimate look into Toulouse-Lautrec's various studies into the female form. Specifically, this sketch awards us insight into how he constructed his more iconic renditions of the Parisian theatre and bohemian life in his posterworks of the late 1800s. This is a beautifully simple and elegant study of the mannerisms of a typical stage performer, amidst elaborate and frilly costume. The liveliness of the fabric which projects upward at the flick of every move gives us the feeling we are part of the show. As observers and even audience members, Toulouse-Lautrec engages and delights in each piece of his eclectic œuvre. PROVENANCE:- Estate of the artist.- Dr. Georges Viau, Paris.- Marcel Guiot, Paris.- Th. P. Halperin, United States.- Mr. & Mrs. Herbert Schimmel, New York.- R.H.
