Click to View Image Album One of a kind, wonderfully simple & graphic, and a very charming example of American Folk Art! This "A" doll quilt was stitched by Anna Miller of Brownstown, Lancaster County, Penna. around 1936 for her daughter Anna. It was purchased from Anna's daughter, the maker's granddaugher, by an early collector. He told me this doll quilt is pictured in Clarke Hess' book on Mennonite Arts and was also in a show of early regional folk art at the Heritage Museum in Lancaster, Penna. in 1999. The doll quilt measures approx 15" square and is machine pieced of cotton fabrics. It has no batting; the backing is a blue/white "homespun" check; and it is constructed in pillowcase fashion with no binding. Hand and machine quilting frame all the pieces. There are four pink "A" blocks framed by lilac sashing on a background of soft olive check with double borders. Guaranteed exactly as described, this is one of the nicest early doll quilts I've had out of a large collection; very special and a prime example of early Mennonite craft. I do not have the book that this is illustrated in, but it is available on ABEBOOKS. NO DAMAGE, no stains or rips, from a non-smoking household - the quilt is in excellent condition with age softness/fading but no problems. Email with any questions PRIOR to bid or purchase.
