Description
Unique Curlew "Wind Bird" Shorebird Decoy by Ken Kirby Up for auction is a hollow hunting style Curlew decoy that was made to look and feel old. It is hollowed out to make it very light for its large size. It is called a 'wind bird' because it is mounted on wooden post that goes inside the body and rests on a pivot inside the decoy. The least amount of wind would set this decoy in motion and add life to the hunting rig. This bird will not only rotate on the post but also move up and down. It is hollowed and weighs less than 8 ounces! It has a very meticulous paint finish with much detail but still looks like an old gunning bird. Please take time to open all the enlarged photos to see the work on this bird. The paint detail shows crackled finish with rubs, flaking and dark, rich patina which makes it lool like an old bird. It is mounted on a super piece of driftwood. The bird pivotes on the point of the inserted dowel. It was carved and painted by Ken Kirby who specializes in making classic old duck and shorebird decoys. He has been carving for over 24 years, won many ribbons for his work and sold his birds for over 20 years. Measurements: 15" bill to tail (slightly oversize decoy) , 13" high,4" body widthShipping: $12.00 in US with insurance, slightly more to Canada.
