From awe inspiring High Fountains, to Lava Flowing into the Sea, these pictures are not only chosen for their artistic value, but will also provide the viewer with scenes of every type of activity that has taken place at Kilauea Volcano over the last 25 years. These images are divided into four sections: Eruptions, Lava Flows, Lava Tubes, and Lava Flowing into the Sea. Each section has it's own, beautiful designed and very informative, full sized Sales Sheet which includes information about the volcanic activity being depicted. The 'Eruption' Sheet reads:"ERUPTIONSEruptions at Kilauea Volcano take many forms – from fissures with curtains of lava leaping over 100 feet into the air, to lava fountains jetting up to 2000 feet high, to lava lakes with molten rock lapping at their shores. Eruptions usually begin as linear fissures break open the volcano’s surface. As magma rises within the volcano, the stress upon the surrounding rock becomes so great that it cracks, opening seams on the mountain’s surface that allow the pent up molten material to rush forth in an incredible display of nature’s power and beauty. As the pressures that started the eruption diminish, the length of the eruptive fissures will decrease, eventually settling in one spot, often erupting episodically in the form of fountains, from a single vent. High fountaining occurs when gas bubbles rapidly form and expand within the magma, driving it to the surface where it erupts under great pressure from a narrow conduit. When lava erupts continuously from a single vent, it often creates a lava lake. Lava lakes are formed by a series of cooling flows that build one on top of the other to make levies that hold within them a molten body of churning lava. During the summit eruption of Kilauea in the 19th century, and during the Kupaianaha-Pu‘u ‘O‘o eruption, lava lakes remained active for years without pause."The other three Sales Sheets, one each for Lava Flows, Lava Tubes, and Lava Flowing into the Sea, all have equally informative descriptions. All the Sales Sheets are suitable for framing themselves.DORIAN WEISEL has been photographing the eruptions at Kīlauea Volcano since 1983. He has had 3 books in print, the most popular of which is Kilauea: the Newest Land on Earth, which has been in print since 1990. Dorian’s images have appeared in hundreds of publications, have been exhibited in several museums, and are a part of the Smithsonian Museum’s exhibit Inside Active Volcanoes. Katia and Maurice Kraft, the founders of the Center for Volcanology in France, and during their lifetime photographers and writers of dozens of books on the subject said of Dorian:"Having photographed volcanic eruptions around the world for twenty-five years, we are amazed at the profound sensitivity of these superb photographs by Dorian Weisel, un artiste fabuleux de volcans."To learn more about Dorian, and to see more of his photographic work, visit his web site at: http://www.volcanophoto.comPlease review the accompanying photographs to get a greater appreciation of just how beautiful, and well packaged, these signed Fine Art Photographic Prints by Dorian Weisel, really are. Please email me with any questions you have before you bid.
