Description
A beautiful, folky, EARLY AND OLD work I date to the 19th century.      A needlepoint sampler witth a center floral medalion, some other small designs, and a graceful floral vine type border, signed in bold stitches on black at the bottom Emma A. Walsh.    I am no textile expert but it appears that the needlwork parts are wool (stitches even and gracefuly done) on what looks to  me like a 19th c beiged with age silk / linen background fabric. (see the pictures.)  It appears to have been professionally and  archivally  framed, the back is clean and the paper even looks new, with spacers at the bottom and a hanging wire, the frame probably later than the piece, yet does look old, wood with a subtle gilt tint,  and it suits it well.  It looks like a treasured family piece that was framed with  care , possibly in a vintage or antique frame, to preserve it. The background is a plain and unadorned beige fabric that looks like some kind of antique silk to me.  This is a very charming and decorative piece as you can see in the pictures, well stitched and wih lovely colors .  It makes a statement as it's a fairly large size;   18 6/8 inches wide by  about 19 inches long.  this is one I would definetely prefer to keep! please note: it was very hard to photograph because of the glare of the flash (at night) against the glass.  the pictures don't do it justice!we are clearing out 40 years of collecting clutter in anticipation of downsizing so please check my other auctions, you never know what you may fine (neither do we) and you will always find a bargain.  as we get closer and closer to my credit card due date the quality of the items will continue to increase - I'm starting to part with things I'd really love to keep!  but we are tripping over all this stuff, and many bills to pay. I am  selling off much of my beautiful folk art collection and replacing them with old family pieces  (everyone in my family painted.)Shipping  for this well wrapped is $15.00 domestically. Domestic shipping cost includes full insurance, expensive bubblewrap, and the cost of gas to get to the USPO.  international shipping does not include insurance (you would have to use a more expensive shipping method to insure it)  and no return on international items. . I just use a flat fee because I don't know how to use the insurance calculator in the listing- somtimes its a little over but many times its way under, it hopefully it will even out in the end. I"ve gotten stuck with some serious under-estimates!  this seems right to me (if not a bit low) given he size of he piece.
