His work was often created using a single typewriter where he would very slowly create intense, remarkably detailed and determinedly crafted works by typing letter by letter in a precise, predetermined position. Multiple colours in the same drawing were created by a change in the colour of the typing ink tape on the machine and a repositioning of the paper to make the new typed mark. Dsh often regarded the hard concentration and consideration of the work as akin to meditation and part of his religious work. dshHEAVEN/GROUND. A wonderful small concrete poem from the monk We have been told anecdotally that dsh's commitment to creating these lovely small works was such that when the Abbot of Prinknash Abbey where dsh lived wanted to punish the monk (for what reason we cannot guess) he removed the typewriter. A small number of these works were made with the same texts but the number is unknown but each was hand typed.
